London, April 17- IJS-Global - During the Easter, a lot of Hong Kong people changed their travel plans for the holiday because the impact of global financial crisis. They made jaunts such as visit mainland China instead of long-distance travel and travel abroad. But there is a Europe country they would still like to spend their time and money at, the United Kingdom.
Hong Kong used to be a British colony since 1840 until 1997 it returned to Chinese government. Before the return, a lot of Hong Kong people migrated to Europe and America in order to evade the domination of Chinese government, the top migration countries were U.K and Canada and Australia, according to the statistics of Hong Kong Immigration Department. And because of this reason, many Hong Kong people have relatives in these countries, especially in U.K.
Mr. Lam, who is a visitor with his family to London, said that “This is the first time for my two girls to travel abroad. I’ve made the decision that we came to London during the Easter and my annual vacation to give myself a break. My sister lives here and we can stay in her house. That’s really saved a lot of money for me than if we go to other countries, which we have to spend quite much money on housing.” He added, “I don’t think we need to totally give up travelling in this economy environment, we should rather take the chance to pick up places that we should visit and the best thing is the currency of British pound is really good these days. So we now spend money is actually saving money.”
Mr. Lam is not the only person who thinks this way. Sabrina, a university girl came to London to visit her friends and plan to do some shopping, said that “I booked my airplane tickets a month ago so they were very cheap. I love luxury brands. And because of the currency, U.K probably has the lowest price all over the world. Otherwise I would spend much more money for buying them in Hong Kong. And my friend and I may join some tours to visit somewhere else of U.K such as Scotland, it’s not expensive either and we’ll have a lot of fun I believe.”
With the financial crisis spread around the world, it has brought a certain impact on the stock market that fell sharply, stock shrinkage, economic damage, which the global tourism brought about by the negative effects already visible. Especially in Hong Kong, such a finance-oriented area, many people have to travel plans, to save money since they don’t have much money in their pocket and the rising of unemployment rate.
Most of them turned travel abroad into the domestic travel, long-distance travel into a short-term travel or even cancel their holiday travel plan. But from Mr. Lam and Sabrina we can see that crisis always come with opportunities. Even for personal travel plans, people could also get a good chance under a bad environment.
After the global financial crisis, people need to rebuild our confidence to economy; people also need to give themselves a break from all the bad things that happened these days. And maybe they should start with making a smart travel plan. |
