Kutna Hora, near Prague - Jan 11 - IJS-Global - Jaromira is not only a tour guide in her ancient Czech hometown of Kutna Hora, she is also the oldest tour guide, showing crowds of English-speaking visitors around a settlement dating back to medieval times.
In the summer she is busy. But in winter, piercing winds and falling snow deter all but the hardiest tourists. The streets were desolate. Which is why she had the time to welcome guests into the warmth of her home, serve drinks and snacks, and talk about a life lived during turbulent times.

Kutna Hora, near Prague - Jan 10 - IJS-Global - The cold, spreading out as a white fog, had deterred all but a handful of tourists. The old town of Kutna Hora appeared to be hibernating.
But with the streets almost empty of the visitors who flood in during the summer, those who braved the chill of the off-season got the opportunity to speak at length with some of the inhabitants of this ancient city and hear of the monumental changes they have experienced in their lifetimes.
